In a world increasingly enamoured with quiet luxury, Zimbabwean fashion house Zargue’sia is unafraid of grandeur. Founded by designer Ishmael Tsakatsa, the Harare-based house creates garments where precision tailoring meets sumptuous fabrics, intricate embellishment and silhouettes with a distinctly regal sensibility. The effect is glamorous without feeling disposable, polished yet rich with drama.

Since launching at Zimbabwe Fashion Week in 2013, Zargue’sia has cultivated a design language built around elegance, opulence and what the house describes as a romanticism of royalty. Evening gowns sweep dramatically across the body, structured pieces are softened with fluid movement, and richly coloured textiles, lace, satin, brocade and sheer fabrics are layered to create a sense of occasion. There is an unmistakable couture influence in the way the garments are imagined, with detail and silhouette given as much importance as the clothes themselves.

Tsakatsa’s work has travelled well beyond Zimbabwe. In 2021, he presented Stones of Fire, Zargue’sia’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection, during Paris Fashion Week. Developed over 11 months, the collection brought together earth-toned browns, fiery oranges, soft creams and pinks with printed silk satin, beaded tulle, duchess satin, brocade, chiffon and organza. The result was an expressive study in colour, texture and movement, with the designer drawing inspiration from the force of a volcano and the human determination to keep moving forward.

Recognition has followed the house throughout its rise. Tsakatsa was named Zimbabwean Designer of the Year in 2014, and Zargue’sia was later recognised as Bridal Wear Designer of the Year at the 2025 ZWING Wedding Industry Awards. In 2025, Tsakatsa also designed the evening gowns worn by Miss Universe Zimbabwe and her first runner-up, while in 2026 he received the inaugural Outstanding Male Designer award at Zimbabwe’s National Arts Merit Awards.

What makes Zargue’sia compelling is its belief that luxury should still feel like an event. These are clothes with presence, from sweeping gowns and sculptural tailoring to elaborate details designed to catch the light and hold a room. At a time when fashion can so easily become ephemeral, Zargue’sia continues to make the case for dressing with intention, imagination and a little theatre.

This is Zimbabwean luxury at its most romantic: beautifully constructed, unapologetically glamorous and made for the woman who does not simply enter a room, but changes its atmosphere.
