Food, in the end, in our own tradition, is something holy. It’s not about nutrients and calories. It’s about sharing, honesty, and identity. This sentiment resonates sincerely with private chef and foodie, Thandolwethu Nkomo.

The 26-year-old lifestyle digital creator who describes herself as a God’s girl is an enthusiast of the culinary arts who cherishes the ancient art of cooking a hearty meal.

Multifaceted, Thandolwethu is also a sports fanatic with her favourite football club being the Reds, Liverpool. When she’s not cooking up a storm, restaurant hopping, or nurturing her spirituality by attending church, the digital creator spends her downtime taking a good old nap or getting top-class spa treatments.

We have a chat with Thandolwethu about her favourite things from her holy grail body wash to visiting the Mother City, Cape Town.

Liverpool football club

I’ve always loved football. In fact, it was the only sport I was good at in my school days. However, I wasn’t really big on international football until my uncle and brother made me fall in love with it and LFC was the team my uncle supported so I followed suite. Little did I know that I’d grow the most passionate form of love for the team over the years.

Setting up feasts or banquets

As a chef and a foodie, I absolutely love putting together beautiful spreads of food for people to enjoy. I’m creative so I love how that translates visually into my food set ups, it always has to look like how I imagine food would be served in heaven. That’s the standard.

Being at church

I found a church that has a culture and people that I resonate with and it feels like home. I attend Friday youth and Sunday services and I always feel like there’s something missing in my week if I miss any of them. Liberty church has become such an integral part of my life.

Sunglasses

I don’t know how many pairs of sunglasses I own but what I do know is that it’s a lot. I wear them so often because not only do they complete most of my outfits but they make me feel sassy and invincible. I can’t live without them.

Big voluminous hair

Finding things that suite you may take a while for other people but I’m glad that I know which type of hair suits me. Whatever is big, bold and curly really compliments my face so those are usually my preferred hairstyles.

Visiting the spa

Relaxing and taking time out is important to me because I believe in wellness. Being able to go to the spa is a luxury I don’t take for granted, though I’d love to go more often I really make sure I go as much as I can.

Clicks Shea butter body wash

Discovering this body wash has been one of the best things to happen to my skin. It smells amazing and leaves my skin feeling smooth and soft while removing keratosis.

Restaurant hopping

As an aspiring restaurateur, restaurant hopping is one of my hobbies. Whether it’s a kota spot or Michelin star restaurant, I want to be there. I usually keep a mental checklist and rate my experiences at the different restaurants I visit. It’s so much fun!

Cape Town

Though I’ve never travelled internationally I’m convinced that Cape Town is the most beautiful city in the world. I love the restaurants, vineyards, the beaches, how late the sun sets, how well kept the city is, basically everything!

A good nap

Being self employed affords me the luxury to be able to nap when I feel I need to refuel. In that way I become sharper and efficient as well as productive. There’s nothing I appreciate more than a good nap, especially because my job requires so much from me physically.
