In the 12 years since Nomuzi “Moozlie” Mabena shot to fame, the Benoni-born star has evolved countless times within her career, revealing depths to her countless talents. The star made her debut in the industry after winning the MTV Base presenter search competition and has since taken on music, also representing the alter ego ‘Young MaBrrrr’, while also flexing her fashion sense, boosting countless brand-ambassador gigs and MC’ing and the works.
Her brand has grown to be affiliated with a plethora of creative expressions, but it is her latest gig as Era’s creative director that has been keeping her busy. The 31-year-old is the head overseer for all creative aspects of DJ Zinhle’s Era company.
“As the creative director at Era by DJ Zinhle, I am very closely involved with the day-to-day operations of the brand, especially where creativity is concerned,” a space she gets to flex her creative mind.
Between traveling, meetings, and a personal life to keep up with, the star took some time to share her favorite thing with us.
Era Jewelry Box
From as far as I could remember, jewellery has always been a staple of mine. So I had short hair, and while other girls could play around with their looks and hair, I didn’t have that option. So I had to use accessories to try and add to my looks, and I fell in love ever since. So you’d find that while someone would typically wear one necklace, I’d go for four to eight necklaces, six rings, earrings—the works. Like I’m a stacker. So this particular jewellery box has all my favourite products inside; it is fresh and caters to everyone’s uniqueness.
Cuticle oil
This is by far the most important item I carry with me wherever I go, and I don’t know why more girls don’t find this as important. I put it on every single day, sometimes twice a day, and I think that because I have long nails and I obviously do acrylic, I always want to make sure that my natural nails are also taken care of.
Don Julio Reposado
Everybody who knows me or has been out with me knows that I am a tequila queen. I can drink as many tequilas and still be standing. I love this particular brand and have over the years found that tequila is my thing after going through siders, champagne. But I am in my tequila era right now.
And I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing, but I think tequila is part of my personality now. I will serve tequila, pour tequila, and drink tequila.
My nephew
Do I need to explain?! *Laughs* My sister’s child is now my child, and he is the cutest baby ever. He is just learning how to walk; he is turning 1 year old next month, and we are so excited. I live to feel his cheeks, the best feeling ever—it’s like eating ice cream. The only person above me is his mother; otherwise, he is my best friend. We get all excited when we see each other; he’ll crawl to me, and we have a connection like no other. I live with my sister full-time, and this is my first time observing a child every single day—not broody at all. But this one, my nephew, is my favourite person ever.
Essence Serum Hello Good Stuff
I think a lot of people think that skincare needs to be highly advanced and serums must be the most expensive. I have really good skin, and I use a lot of drugstore stuff. Essence has amazing serums; I use them day-to-day. It keeps me moisturized; my skin feels hydrated the entire day, and I am obsessed with it.
The Sydney Head Band (Factorie)
I don’t always wear wigs, but sometimes you know your xxx just starts to come up after a few days after an install. And I don’t know what it is, but girls have this habit of wearing the same elastic that they use to lay the lace. They want to wear that in the clubs or where we can see them. No! That’s wrong, guys. The factory has headbands in every color, and they are the cutest thing. I would highly recommend them, and let’s leave the elastic bands.
Naked Without Face and Body Shimmer
I love showing a lot of skin, especially when I am doing gigs and stuff. I go to the gym so I am really feeling myself, so just to make sure that my skin is always shimmering, I love using this Naked without Body spray. Nadia Nakai recently started a makeup brand, and she has the perfect body spray, amazing quality stuff with proper glitter. You can use it on your face; you can use it on your body; it doesn’t fade over time, and I literally swear by it.
Slaap Chips
Everyday! My favorite is the sloppy salt and vinegar ones that are falling apart, with fish and achar. That combination is something I can have every day. And probably people think I have salads and greens—I actually hate veggies, and the only one I acknowledge is the potato. I grew up eating, but over the last year or so, it has become a staple. I love fries, and I like Steers chips. Just give me chips.
Polaroid Camera
In my profession, we are always taking these well-curated pictures, putting in a lot of effort into the content, so we have an abundance of these super professional images. But in those intimate moments where we are just being ourselves privately, a good Polaroid camera does the job.
I got my hands on a digital one late last year, and I found that it was a really cool way to take really candid pictures. It is such a cool way of capturing real, raw moments.
Relaxing
Because I am always busy, super social, and always up and about, I genuinely love to sit in my bedroom, put on Netflix, scroll on my phone, and do nothing. I love watching the content of couples switching phones on Youtube, lying on my bed, and just scrolling home. I can move from Instagram to TikTok. My screen time is probably not the healthiest, but as a content creator and creative director, I can justify it as research. But honestly, it is just my downtime.
