You’ve worked with various fashion industry tastemakers over the years. How did your journey as a stylist begin?

My journey as a stylist began with the discovery of my passion for fashion during my time as a 16-year-old rapper. As I delved into the world of fashion, trends, and photoshoots to conceptualise imagery for my music, I fell in love with the art of styling. Initially, I started styling friends who were local artists, and within a year, my work caught the attention of artists from other countries through online platforms. The turning point came when I secured my first red carpet outfit for a prominent artist in Angola, propelling me into the industry, and the rest is history!

What are some of your career highlights from your journey as a stylist?

Certainly, my career has been adorned with numerous highlights, each step a testament to my dedication. Notably, I styled an Angolan superstar for an award show, earning the accolade of “look of the evening” and garnering extensive coverage in the Lusophone press. Another significant achievement was co-styling the music video for the “YABA BULUKU REMIX” by YABA BULUKU BOYZ FT BURNA BOY, a Nigerian Grammy award-winning artist, now boasting over 21 million views on YouTube.

A defining moment came when I clinched the Fashion Stylist of the Year title at the prestigious ABRYANZ FASHION & STYLE AWARDS in Uganda Kampala, following my dual wins in Ghana/Accra in 2021 & 2022. Further, I had the privilege of styling three episodes of the Showmax-produced show “Life of Kelly Khumalo” and co-styling the music video for “PATEK” by Mr Eazi ft Joey B & Dj Tarico, shot in the vibrant city of Accra, Ghana. These are just a few glimpses; my journey has been a constellation of such remarkable milestones.

You are also an advocate for eco-conscious fashion. Why is this close to your heart?

Eco-conscious fashion is not just a choice but a responsibility that resonates deeply with me. As a stylist, I believe in the transformative power of fashion beyond aesthetics – it’s a language that speaks to our values. Embracing eco-conscious practices aligns with my commitment to sustainability, ensuring that beauty doesn’t come at the expense of our planet. In the realm of style, I find immense joy in curating looks that not only captivate but also contribute to a more sustainable future. It’s about fostering a connection between fashion and environmental consciousness, proving that glamour and eco-friendliness can coexist harmoniously on the runway and in our daily lives. This advocacy is a celebration of style with a purpose, and I’m thrilled to be part of a movement that believes in the elegance of sustainable choices.

Aside from fashion, you’re also a DJ. How did your journey in music begin?

My journey in music began with my roots as a rapper, intertwining the realms of sound and style. Music has always been the heartbeat of all arts for me, serving as the initial inspiration that led me into the world of fashion. As a fashion stylist, I desired to infuse my aesthetic with the vibrancy of music, creating a seamless connection between the two. The transition into DJing was a natural evolution, allowing me to personally curate the sounds that complement my fashion creations. I envisioned my clothes to resonate with a distinct sound, and what better way to achieve that than by taking the stage myself, heating up dance floors with an electrifying fusion of iconic fashion and music? It’s a journey where the beats echo the rhythm of my style.

Going back to fashion, how would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is a flamboyant and vibrant fusion, drawing inspiration from rockstar and goth aesthetics but infused with a palette of bright colours. I find resonance in avant-garde haute couture, appreciating the unconventional, and also embracing elements of streetwear for that perfect balance of edgy sophistication. It’s a style that speaks to my love for bold expression and the dynamic intersection of various fashion genres.

What do you love most about being a stylist?

The most rewarding aspect of being a stylist is the transformative process – the ability to create or enhance a person’s style and help them embody the best version of themselves. It’s a sensation that allows me to express my art through clothes, contributing to a world that is not only stylish but also resonates with the unique identity of each individual I work with.

Which fashion rule do you live by?

The fashion rule I live by is to fearlessly break them. True style lies in the freedom to express oneself authentically, embracing individuality over conformity.

In your professional opinion, what makes or breaks an outfit?

In my professional opinion, the details are the essence – they can make or break an outfit, unequivocally. It’s the meticulous attention to the finer elements that elevate a look from ordinary to extraordinary.

When styling clients, what is your go-to fashion accessory?

My go-to fashion accessory when styling clients is undoubtedly a statement piece. Whether it’s a bold necklace, striking hat, or unique pair of sunglasses, a standout accessory can effortlessly elevate and define the entire look.

Which current fashion trends would you recommend for our readers who want to be on trend?

For those aiming to stay on trend, I recommend exploring the current fascination with sustainability, opting for eco-friendly fabrics and designs. Additionally, oversized silhouettes,

vibrant monochromes, and playful textures are making waves. Incorporating these elements into your wardrobe adds a contemporary touch while embracing individuality.

Which fashion trends should we keep on our radar for 2024?

As we look ahead to 2024, keep an eye on the following fashion trends:

  • sustainable and eco-conscious designs will continue to gain prominence,
  • tech-infused fashion with innovative materials and
  • a resurgence of nostalgic styles with a modern twist.
