“It’s a new era in fashion, there are no rules.” – Alexander Mcqueen

Fashion has always been the pinnacle in defining liberation, and it will always be a medium for it. In the era of Instagram domination, there is a concrete chance that you have seen unconventional outfits doing wonders in public places, which traditionally were merely constrained to the runway. Viral internet sensation and self-proclaimed “professional bragger”, Elsa Majimbo recently hopped on the unconventional fashion wave.

Elsa Majimbo, who boasts 1.4 million followers on TikTok and 2.5 million followers on Instagram, became famous from her bedroom in Kenya, subsequently dropping out of college. Now, the comedian-influencer is living her very best life on the West Coast – while rocking the hottest outfits of course!

Recognised by Rihanna and given a chance to model for FENTY shades, the social media star has gone on to shine in a campaign with luxury fashion house Valentino, albeit it wasn’t for a fashion campaign but rather her comedy work. Furthermore, the digital shapeshifter was draped in custom Thebe Magugu for her native magazine feature.

Puffed sleeves making mundane tops fashionable, ruffled stockings, denim jackets flaunting bikini tops like a dream, and those corsets crop tops, Elsa has been making some very bold fashion statements.

Elsa’s new style has been characterised by pops of colour. The TikTok star has been spotted in some of the most daring pieces such as pink Mary Janes.

Staying true to her bright colours-or nothing-signature, Elsa has also been leaning towards warmer hues such as yellow and orange.

Switching things up with some elegant chic, the social media star resembled Hollywood royalty in a white ensemble complemented by a fur overthrow, and of course, an orange pair of stilettos as a shock factor.

One could argue that at its core, Elsa’s newfound
vogue is inspired by Y2K fashion, and the argument would have great merit. From tiny crop tops to booty shorts, her style makes her look like a fashionista from a Nollywood movie from the early 2000s.

The coquette aesthetic has spread beyond Gen Z-led social media virality, with Hollywood’s biggest stars wearing the look both on the red carpet and of course, our fashion muse Elsa Majimbo giving us her own rendition of the aesthetic.
