From artists of Hip-Hop’s golden age to the rising acts driving rap’s new wave, the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards brought generations of talent to the red carpet. Filmed earlier this month in Atlanta, the celebration aired on October 11, with performances, cyphers, and more paying cultural homage. Hosted by Fat Joe, the awards honoured Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and Marley Marl for their career contributions.

Kendrick Lamar emerged the night’s biggest winner, taking home four prizes. The rapper swept every category he was nominated in, winning hip hop artist of the year, lyricist of the year, best live performer and video director of the year, alongside his collaborator Dave Free.

Moreover, a slew of artists went home with two awards, including Drake & 21 Savage (hip hop album of the year for Her Loss and best duo or group); Lil Durk feat. J. Cole (best collaboration and impact track for “All My Life”); Lil Uzi Vert (song of the year and best hip hop video for “Just Wanna Rock”); and Metro Boomin (producer of the year and DJ of the year).

Like every other year, some of the game’s biggest artists were dressed to impress for one of Hip-Hop’s biggest nights. NLE Choppa had his chest out while rocking a matching frayed leather jacket and pants combo. Sexyy Red stayed true to her name by wearing a flattering, bright red skirt and matching top, while Coi Leray wore a flowery purple bralette and trailing skirt. Kalli kept to the classic Hollywood theme by adorning a black red carpet dress with a purple flower decoration on the bust.

Other attendees such as Safaree left little to the imagination. The reality star rolled through shirtless and rocked some spiked jeans with Tom Ford undergarments. Baby Tate and Flo Milli also added a notable burst of colour to the red carpet with their kaleidoscopic outfits.
