From the shows to the after-parties, SA Fashion Week remains reverential of designers—especially those who are willing to take risks.
Another breathtaking edition of South African Fashion Week (SAFW) has come and gone, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The Autumn/Winter ’25 showcase in the heart of Johannesburg’s Melrose Arch solidified the city’s standing as the undisputed fashion capital of South Africa. With a fusion of local heritage and global appeal, the three-day event was a testament to Mzansi’s evolving fashion narrative, blending innovation and tradition into an unforgettable spectacle.
A Star-Studded Runway Boasting Heritage Revival

This season’s runway was a celebration of colour, cutting-edge designs, and South African cultural pride. Some of the biggest names in local fashion left a mark, with each collection more riveting than the last. One of the standout moments came courtesy of Gert-Johan Coetzee, the internationally acclaimed designer, who brought his celebrated London Fashion Week collection to South African soil. His pieces were more than just fashion statements—they were a narrative, a reflection of the country’s rich culture and a vision for its bright future.

Equally captivating was IMPRINT’s Mzukisi Mbane, whose Autumn/Winter ’25 collection stole the spotlight with its bold headgear and vibrant color palettes, taking coordinated fashion to new heights. Each piece was a celebration of African identity, blending traditional elements with contemporary design, creating a visual feast that both paid homage to heritage and embraced the future.

Palesa Mokubung of Mantsho also delivered a show-stopping collection, with her signature dresses reimagined through a modern lens. Her breathtaking designs drew a warm reception from the audience, cementing her status as one of the pillars of South African fashion. The moment was made even more special when SA Fashion Week honoured her with a bouquet of flowers, a nod to her continued efforts in pushing South African fashion to the forefront of the global stage.

Breaking Boundaries with Menswear: The Mr Price Scouting Menswear Competition

Beyond the established designers, the spotlight also shone on up-and-coming talent, with the Mr Price Scouting Menswear Competition drawing excitement from fashion insiders. Undefined, led by visionary Kingsley Baloyi, emerged victorious, securing the chance to collaborate with the retail giant on a limited-edition capsule collection. This win not only highlights the growing prominence of menswear but also emphasises the importance of nurturing new talent within the South African fashion landscape.

The Stars Who Lit Up the White Carpet

SA Fashion Week was as much about the runway as it was about the star-studded attendees. From media powerhouse Pearl Thusi to award-winning rapper Nadia Nakai, the event was a convergence of South Africa’s biggest names in entertainment. Miss South Africa 2023, Natasha Joubert, also dazzled the crowds, adding her own flair to the white carpet. Their presence elevated the glamour, making SA Fashion Week a must-see event both on and off the runway.

As the curtain falls on this year’s edition, it’s clear that SA Fashion Week continues to elevate the standard of Mzansi fashion. From stunning collections to star power, it remains a showcase of South Africa’s unique fashion identity—one that is deeply rooted in culture while boldly stepping into the future.
