15 breathtaking hair and make-up details that graced the 2024 Hollywoodbets Durban July purple carpet

The Hollywoodbets Durban July, which is arguably the most popular exhibition in Mzansi’s entertainment calendar – was as spectacular as anticipated for 2024. Under the eclectic theme “Ride The Wave”, the purple carpet boasted head-turning glitz and glamour which has become synonymous with the extravaganza.

Not only were the gowns literal works of art (see Previdar’s Durban July fashion report here), but the hair and make-up designs were very deserving of admiration too.

From head-turning intricate up-dos, to impeccably executed make-up, the beauty looks at this year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July oozed elegant glamour. Below, take in 15 of the best to remember.

Naliyani Uma

If you’re looking for a lesson in day-to-night beauty, look no further than Naliyani Uma’s exquisite ombré hair. Paired with a smoky cut crease, this beauty ensemble is nothing short of award-winning.

Shudufadzo Musida

Miss South Africa 2020 Shudufhadzo Musida kept her make-up and hair chic and minimal for the Durban July, via an understated nude lip, a subtle smoky eye look, and glowing skin.

Khosi Twala

A classic razor-sharp bob looks like it was made for Khosi Twala, who looked breathtaking on the Hollywoodbets Durban July purple carpet.

Lisa Madibe

The simple truth: Less really can be more of a moment when it’s done this well. A little blush, a little eyeliner, and an elegant up-do. Digital creator Lisa Madibe’s timeless approach was spot on for the Durban July (as was her gown).

Jessica Nkosi

Jessica Nkosi gave us a lesson in grunge glam with her ultimate favourite hair colour – blonde, and a nude-toned makeup look, with a subtly darker shade of eyeshadow.

Sithelo Shozi

This architectural up-do was a total transformation from media personality, Sithelo Shozi’s notoriously minimalistic hairstyles. The pairing of the maximalist hairdo with a gilded monochromatic make-up look? Genius!

Kagiso Mogala

Envisioning the extravaganza’s theme through an artistic lens, digital creator Kagisi Mogala opted for drama! Blue eyeshadow and a nude lip charcoal lip? It’s safe to say, we’re obsessed with this maximalist make-up.

LootLove

Media personality LootLove went for a sultry look to pair with her eye-catching up-do, comprising the classiest bangs. Her smoky eyes, glowing skin, and neutral lips looked gorgeous with the intricate up-do.

Buhle Samuels

Actress Buhle Samuels kept things classic — with a twist. Her glowing skin and glossy eyeshadow didn’t go unnoticed but it’s her twirled topknot that we can’t stop staring at.

Natalie Hlahla

Fashion connoisseur Natalie Hlahla’s gravity-defying sky-high ponytail made our jaw drop, plus she decorated it with some hair gems that scattered down onto the side of her face.

Thando Thabethe

She is beauty, she is grace. And might we add, she is glowing, Thando Thabethe’s monochromatic peach makeup was angelic.

Nonku Williams

Reality TV superstar Nonku Williams debuted a choppy yet elegant bob for the purple carpet, pairing her fresh crop with a chrome blue eye and a neutral lip.

Sphokuhle N

This sultry smokeshow could only be made better by a tousled, undone wave and influencer Sphokuhle N understood the assignment. If you’re looking for a sunkissed make-up look that won’t compromise on drama, look no further than this modern Durban July glamour.

Liyema Pantsi

“Big Brother” star and influencer, Liyema Pantsi stunned at the July, stepping out in an effortless and delicate up-do, complete with a softly blushed complexion and blotted ruby red lip.

Nande Ramncwana

Neutral lips were everywhere on the purple carpet, but this glossy finish from Nande Ramncwana was by far our favourite. Need we even mention her flawless slicked-back bun? A convincing case for side fringes to be seen here.
