At just 18, Simphiwe Quintin Mnisi is proudly wearing the crown—literally. Recently crowned Mr Teen Heritage South Africa, the Edenglen High School learner is stepping into his power with purpose, poise, and quiet confidence. Born in Mpumalanga and raised by a devoted single mother, Simphiwe’s story is one of grace, grit, and groundedness.

 

From rugby fields to runways, and now pageant stages, he’s honouring both his heritage and his dreams. In this Youth Month spotlight, he opens up about staying rooted in his spirituality, choosing modelling over the game that unites a nation, and why kindness will always be his legacy.

 

1. What’s one thing you wish older generations understood about Gen Z?

That we are a generation of success and destined to change many lives.

4. Who’s your Youth Day icon—past or present—and why?

Hector Pieterson. He moves me so much because he fought until his last breath doing what he knew was right and being a young adult it he motivates me to pursue something that I believe in.

 6. What’s your ultimate local flex—something proudly South African you’ll always brag about?

Regardless of upbringing and religion we are very diverse something most countries wouldn’t be able to achieve so soon.

 7. Tell us about a moment you thought: “Yoh, I’m actually who I think I am.”

As a child I would think  to myself that I am destined for great things trying to make a name for myself but I would never believe it until I was put in situations where I was able to make that thought a reality. The dream I had as a child was right in front of me and I achieved more than what I wanted.

 

 8. How do you stay soft and sane in a world that’s doing the most?

No matter what situation I’m in I will always think about the moments that makes me most proud and in that moment I wouldn’t loose a sense of who I am making stay sane.

I leave a mark through everything I do whether it’s how I express myself myself  through fashion or the conversations I spark. I don’t  follow  trends rather I set them Creating a space for everyone to be bold and real.
