From the language of jazz to the artistry of streetwear, Selaelo Selota is translating a lifetime of musical storytelling into a bold new expression of South African luxury.

For South African jazz musician, composer and producer Selaelo Selota, that relationship has taken on a new form through THRRR…PHAAA!, a luxury streetwear label that brings his distinctive creative sensibility into the world of fashion.
Rooted in the energy of Selota’s music and the experiences that have shaped his life, the brand approaches clothing as more than an exercise in style. It is an extension of storytelling, with heritage, individuality and contemporary street culture informing its visual identity.
Selota’s creative journey has been shaped by the sounds and experiences of his upbringing in Limpopo, alongside his encounters with the diverse musical traditions of Southern Africa. Over a career spanning decades, he has built a distinctive musical language that draws on jazz, traditional rhythms and lived experience. With THRRR…PHAAA!, that same instinct for composition finds expression through fabric, colour, silhouette and detail.
The label made its fashion debut with The New Resonance, a collection inspired by Selota’s personal history, childhood memories and enduring relationship with music. Its launch at The Space in Rosebank introduced a new chapter in the artist’s creative journey, translating the spirit of his work into wearable pieces.
That story continued onto the runway at South African Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter 2027 showcase at The Forum in Hyde Park. On 22 October 2026, THRRR…PHAAA! presented The Rhythm of the Journey, a 17-look collection that brought South African heritage into conversation with elevated tailoring and contemporary streetwear.
A saturated palette of burnt orange, rich crimson, azure blue and signature lime green gave the collection its visual pulse. Bold, oversized silhouettes balanced streetwear’s expressive energy with a considered approach to construction, while collaborations with emerging designers from the David Tlale Academy helped bring the creative concepts to life. Accessories from PRAIA Sunglasses, The Space and Tiger Blue completed the looks, while DJ Desiree reimagined the original THRRR…PHAAA! track for the runway, connecting the label’s musical origins with its evolving identity.
At its heart, THRRR…PHAAA! is an exploration of what happens when an established artistic voice enters a new creative space. Selota’s move into fashion does not abandon the language that made his music distinctive. Instead, it gives that language another form, one expressed through colour, craftsmanship and clothes designed to make a statement.
