Thimna Shooto is more than a familiar face on television — she is a symbol of self-belief in motion. Since winning Love Island South Africa in 2021, Thimna has used her platform to champion confidence, body positivity and a healthier, more compassionate relationship with fitness and self-image. Grounded in wellness yet deeply attuned to fashion and beauty, her approach to life is refreshingly guilt-free and unapologetically authentic.
With an influence that resonates strongly with South African youth, Thimna’s presence is rooted in intention — showing up honestly, embracing growth and celebrating womanhood in all its forms. In this edition of My Favourite Things, she invites us into the little joys, everyday rituals and personal essentials that keep her inspired, balanced and fully herself.
Gym
Anyone who knows me and followers closely on my Instagram stories knows that gym is my runway- therapy and safe space. I started lifting weights in 2017. It completely change the way I viewed exercise, it makes me feel strong and accomplished. I recommend weights to anyone that’s willing to listen!
The beach & nature
Also another one of my happy place, I like to refer to myself as the bikini aficionado (p.s don’t ask me how many bikinis I own I have no idea).
My mom
The most supportive and understanding woman I know. She’s been there for me from the start and making sure that I don’t take too much of a break from post- since it’s my job now!
Eating well and fuelling my body
I’m at a place in my life where I understand how to fuel my body and how to have a cheat mea/snack, I genuinely prefer healthy food over junk because I love the way it makes me feel and knowing that I’m giving myself the best options makes me very happy.
Watching live sports
Whether you understand what’s going on on the field is not always relevant in my option. As long as you are able to enjoy the atmosphere and it also doesn’t hurt that we have the best rugby team in the world
Getting dressed up
I never miss an opportunity to get dressed up, some might say I enjoy being over dressed. It’s been instilled in my from a young age, by my grandmother who can be quite larger than life when it comes to beauty, to always look good. I can’t think of a quicker way to get me out of a bad mood.
Art
Art and I go way back, I loved arts & craft as a child and I still admire art today. I fantasies about being able to paint and display my work for the world to see. Any opportunity I get I will pick up a paint brush and play around.
Solitude
Although feared by many, solitude is one of the most freeing feelings in the world. Peace to think, make decisions, find closure and just being! Living alone has helped me grow so much in these past few years, I would recommend this chapter to everyone!
Self-care routines
I love taking showers, doing skincare routines especially at the end of a long day, it’s like a little reward for my hard work and efforts. I also relaxes and resets my mind for bed.
Crime documentaries
I’m not sure what it is about crime documentaries- maybe our psychologists will chime in- but they are so easy to get hooked on and also very informative. I don’t mine being made fully aware of what could possibility happen- it’s good to be aware.
